Why? We would have to go into the details of evolutionary process as well as name a few socio-gender specific factors. Is it fair (that a man is expected to pay in so many more instance)? Probably not. But it is what’s expected, just the way it’s a given that most men would prefer a mature 28 year old to a mature 38 year old. Fair (to that 38 y.o.)? No. But it is how it is.
